THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO BE
FUN!
Camaraderie is one of the most important
components of masters swimming. We swim better, faster, and include many fun
activities in or out of the water. Whether your personal goals include
competition or not, all swimmers are part of the whole team and offer their own
special contributions. Mutual encouragement and support are an integral part of
the Masters experience.
Practices are organized having specific
objectives and tailored to the abilities of individuals. No need to be an
accomplished swimmer, just the ability to swim two lengths of the pool without
rest, plus the fitness to do additional swimming with rest, are required. For
more information, contact Northern Neck Family YMCA (804-435-0223) or coach
Kathryn Gregory (804-462-5608).
Program Objectives:
Participants will work toward the
1. ability to safely and correctly do workouts using interval training method.
2. ability to swim (or begin basics) of the competitive strokes: freestyle, breast stroke, backstroke and butterfly, as ability allows.
3. improvement of stroke mechanics.
4. performance of legal, efficient turns and finishes.
5, continued improvement and progress in swimming skills as measured against specific measurable objectives.
Additional Information:
Prepaid season cost to Masters Swimming participants is $215 for YMCA members. This is due by
September 11, the first day of the season. Program members will be charged $55 monthly and may only swim during practice times. The season is
12 months.
New members are accepted only in September. Registrations are open
beginning August 27 at the Northern Neck Family YMCA welcome desk. The main
facility is located at 39 William B. Graham Court (off Harris Drive) in
Kilmarnock VA. The pool is located on the other side of Harris Drive in
Kilmarnock.
New swimmers must be also registered with United States Masters Swimming (USMS)
by October 31. Team members must maintain their USMS membership. This affords accident and liability insurance, provides US Masters SWIMMING magazine,
newsletters, allows participation in sanctioned events and activities, and provides numerous other resources.
Visiting registered swimmers are welcome to our
practices for 3 visits with display of current USMS card.
