Stripers Compete in Virginia Beach

Seven swimmers from the the Stripers, competed in Virginia Beach on November 5.  The 31st Virginia Masters Fall Short Course Meters Meet was held at Bayside Recreation Center. Participating were Richard (Dick) Scott, Kathy Broderick, Frank Miller, Karen Jackson, Sue McKerns, Carolyn Alsup, and team coach, Kathryn Gregory.

 Scott received first places in the 50-meter breast stroke, 100-meter breast stroke, 200-meter breast stroke and 200-meter butterfly.

 Broderick placed first in the 50-meter freestyle, second in the 100-meter freestyle and in the 400-meter freestyle, for which she swam a personal record time.

 Miller finished first in the 50-meter freestyle and second in the 100-meter breast stroke.

 Jackson swam to firsts in the 50-meter breast stroke, 100-meter breast stroke, 50-meter freestyle, and 100-meter freestyle, all personal records.

 McKerns placed first in the 50-meter freestyle (a personal record), 200- meter freestyle,  400-meter freestyle,  1500-meter freestyle, and third in the 800-meter freestyle.

 Alsup placed first in the 100-meter back stroke , 100-meter individual medley, and 200-meter individual medley, all in personal record times.

 Gregory received first places in the 200-meter back stroke, 200-meter freestyle and 200-meter butterfly.  She finished second in the 100-meter back stroke.

 A 200-meter medley relay team consisting of Gregory, Scott, Broderick and Miller set a new Virginia state record.
