Sue McKerns, Dick Scott and Donna Armento at VMST Meet in Virginia Beach

New Striper swimmer Donna Armento, and regular competitor Dick Scott participated in the 2007 Patriot Masters Sprint meet held Sunday, October 28 at George Mason University in Fairfax. Armento swam nine events, all personal records, and in this her first masters meet received seven second places, one third and a fourth. Scott garnered first places in both the 100, and 50-yard breast stroke (which was a personal record time) events.

The Stripers also fielded swimmers for a postal meet, one which is swum in the home pool, verified with times submitted by mail.  Entries are received from many countries around the world. Charlotte Hollings and Jim Evans swam an "Iron Man" pentathlon consisting of 200 yards butterfly, 200 yards back stroke, 200 yards breast stroke, 200 yards freestyle, and a 400-yard individual medley. Kathy Broderick, Donna Armento, Dick Scott, and Sue McKerns completed the "Sprint" version which is 50 of each stroke and a 100-yard individual medley. Results will be available early in 2008.

On December 8 the Virginia Masters Fall Meet was held at Bayside Recreation Center in Virginia Beach. Four Striper swimmers participated.

Sue McKerns swam the 800-meter freestyle (2nd place), 200-meter freestyle (1st), 400-meter freestyle (1st), and 1500-meter Freestyle (1st). All swims were personal record times. Dick Scott set a new Virginia Association record in the 50-meter breast stroke. He received first places in all events, and a personal record time in the 100-meter breast stroke. Donna Armento took first places in the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter back stroke events, second places in the 50-meter breast stroke and 100-meter individual medley, all in personal record times. She also finished third in the 100-meter freestyle. Coach Kathryn Gregory received first places in the 200-meter back stroke, 50-meter butterfly, 100-meter back stroke, 100-meter individual medley and 100-meter breast stroke.
