Striper Swimmers Take Records and Medals At Area Meets

Womens 35+ 200 Medley Team: Alsup, Hollings, Latell and Glover

Charlotte Hollings of the Northern Neck Family YMCA Masters swim team competed in the Tropical Splash short course yards masters swim meet on January 30. It was held at the George Washington Recreation Center in Alexandria, VA. Her results included a Virginia Association record in the 500-yard freestyle, a personal record in the 50-yard backstroke, first places in the 200 yard individual medley, and an 18+ Virginia Masters mixed freestyle relay.

Striper Team members also swam the David Gregg Memorial Meet held at the NOVA Swim Center in Richmond on February 12 and 13. Esther Glover, Kathy Broderick, Andrea Latell, Carolyn Alsup, Scott Kauffman, Richard Scott, Frank Miller, Coach Kathryn Gregory, and Hollings participated.

Hollings broke two more Virginia records in the 1650-yard and the 1000-yard freestyle. Scott set Virginia records for the 200-yard butterfly and the 400-yard individual medley. Kauffman broke his own Virginia record for the 100-yard freestyle.

The group garnered 30 individual first place finishes, six seconds, and four fourths, plus numerous personal record times. They also received a first place in the womens 35+ 200-yard medley relay with a team of Glover, Alsup, Latell, and Hollings. A 55+ relay composed of Gregory, Scott, Kauffman, and Broderick received gold as well.

Coach Gregory stated, "Not only were the overall meet results exceptional, the efforts of first-timers-to-masters-competition, Carolyn Alsup, who captured seven individual golds, and Frank Miller who swam a 1000-yard freestyle as his only event and received a gold, deserve special mention."
